Tumblr makes it super easy to post and share photos and videos, as well as regular good old written posts so the [mis]adventures blog will continue on at:

http://norahdog.tumblr.com

If you have been following Norah's craziness here, we hope you will continue to do so over at the new Tumblr blog.

If you use Google reader, or any other RSS reader, click the Tumblr patch to subscribe to the new feed:
She had the bad luck of finding two fairly photo-obsessed owners.
This is her "why do you keep taking my picture" look:
Usually, Norah likes to nap under the couch with her head sticking out like this:

If she isn't under the couch, it is a pretty good bet that she is either under the bed, in her kennel, or by the window in the kitchen.

The other day, I noticed that I had not seen Norah in a while and decided to find her and make sure that she isn't chewing something somewhere. I looked in all the usual spaces but she was not to be found in any of them. Finally, I checked the bathroom and found her fast asleep in the bathtub. I tried to sneak in and take a picture without waking her but her gigantic ears (thanks to those corgi genes) heard me coming so instead I got this "why did you wake me up from my nap" look:

Weird little dog... :-)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4591514189671237618.post-41799342644812421652010-01-18T01:29:00.001-06:002010-01-18T01:29:11.902-06:00Norah does... something...I have NO idea what she is trying to accomplish here... and I don't think she does either since she seems to eventually give up...
Norah dog and I have been on vacation visiting Kerby so there wasn't much reason to write but now that we are back in Indianola and Kerby is back in Aurora I think it's time to get back to blogging.

Norah is pretty much house trained now. She will go to the bathroom on command outside, even on her short leash. She also doesn't try to go indoors anymore. I'm sure she'll have an accident here or there but for the most part it looks like the work is done. I can't believe someone gave up this dog because "she wouldn't go potty on a leash" (yup, that was one of the stated reasons why she ended up at the rescue agency).

Since Norah seems to be MUCH calmer in her kennel when left home alone, I no longer leave her in the kitchen - I think she likes the way the kennel is like her den (she sleeps in it at night as well). I of course wanted to leave some water in there for her though so I put a bowl of water in it today and when I came back she had tipped the bowl over and was having a great time splashing around in it. She looked at me with her "look what I did!" face when I came home. So, today I went out to PetSmart and got a kennel water thing... it is basically like a gigantic hamster water bottle (see the picture)

Gigantic hamster water bottle

I was worried that Norah wouldn't be able to figure out how to drink from it (it cost $20... a bit steep for some plastic and metal but worth it if it works). To test it out, and to get Norah used to it, I put it on her kennel door and just left the door open. Amazingly, she walked right up to it and started drinking from it like she knew how it worked all along. I wonder if one of her previous homes had something similar?

Anyway, to make a long rambling story short-ish: Norah now poops outside and drinks water like a gigantic hamster.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4591514189671237618.post-177400147476279732009-12-24T01:00:00.002-06:002009-12-24T01:00:04.179-06:00Merry Christmas!

I know, I know... Messy messy. But I always end up wrapping myself up in the covers anyway so I don't see a point in neatly making he bed each night.

Anyway, last night I got into bed and started reading. Norah sleeps in her own bed at night but she usually naps on the human bed while I read. Last night, however, she jumped up onto the messy bed and restlessly started pawing at the covers and trying to rearrange them by pulling them flat with her mouth. Finally, she gave up, gave a big sigh, and crawled in underneath the bed.

I thought I would see what happens if I make the bed, since it looked to me like Norah was trying to flatten out the blankets on the bed. So, I made the bed and got back in to read. Norah crawled out from under the bed, saw that all of the covers were now neat and flat, jumped on the bed and went to sleep.

Norahdog is a neatfreak!
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4591514189671237618.post-90678763352851382812009-12-10T21:56:00.000-06:002009-12-10T21:56:05.760-06:00Norah Versus the SweaterNorah does NOT like wearing dog-clothes...

She hopped around in it like some sort of gigantic bunny (I'll take some video tomorrow when it is light out), and then pooped! She was even on her short "walking" leash and everything!

While she still isn't quite perfect with the potty training and the going to the bathroom on a leash, she is SO MUCH better than she was when we first got her. At this rate, she'll be totally potty-normal by the end of winter I think!

I couldn't find my poop-bags (haven't had much need for them until now) so I used a plastic drink cup to pick it up... it was like some sort of horrible snow-cone from hell... I got a kick out of it.

Ok - I'll try not to do another post on poop for a while, I promise. Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4591514189671237618.post-62670944882625687212009-12-06T23:01:00.000-06:002009-12-06T23:01:38.185-06:00Norah and SnowNorah was born in January of 2009, meaning that she was just a couple of months old when last winter ended. That means that this winter is the first one that she is actually "experiencing". While I don't have any hilarious video to share yet, I wanted to report that she walked in some snow today (the first actual snow of this winter) and looked at me with her typical "WTF?!?!" look as if to say "what did you do? Whatever it was, make it go away please crazy human...".

She enjoys eating snow, but not walking in it - or at least, the ground being all cold and crunchy is something she will need to get used to :-)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4591514189671237618.post-36460441742846076242009-12-04T00:35:00.000-06:002009-12-04T00:35:04.351-06:00Nora After a BathI gave Norah a bath today so that she is all nice and clean for when we go visit Kerby this weekend. She's a pretty good dog in the bathtub - no fighting or anything - she just stands there and lets me wash her. But, after her bath she goes a little crazy...

(also, yes... my apartment is messy... )

Norah heard the ice hit the floor and came running into the kitchen with a look on her face that said "Did I hear ice?!?!? Stand back! I know how to handle this!" She grabbed the ice cube that I dropped and carried it into the living room where she spent the next 5 minutes slowly breaking it into pieces and eating them.

Weird dog... :-)

Whiskey Sour:
1oz Lemon Juice
1oz Sugar
2oz Water
1.5oz Whiskey

Combine lemon juice, sugar, and water in shaker - shake until sugar is dissolved.

Add whiskey and ice, shake gently to mix ingredients.

Strain into glass, garnish with maraschino cherry and a splash of grenadine for color (optional). Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4591514189671237618.post-66373348305377460582009-11-23T00:13:00.000-06:002009-11-23T00:13:32.792-06:00Norah looks very pleased with herselfI got home today from an event with some students, and Norah looked like this:
It is tuned to whatever AM talk station decides it wants to come in clearly that day. This way, she has some human voice to listen to instead of just silence.

I stopped by to check in on her after lunch today and found she was listening to Rush Limbaugh (AKA crazy whackjob extraordinaire) babble on about how "It used to be that dreams were all you needed to be successful in this country, but if the current administration has it's way, dreams will just be dreams".
It was short and sweet. Friday night I was on call and bound to the campus. Chris and I took Norahdog (a nickname we both used coincidentally) for a walk around campus and then let her run around the tennis courts. She really enjoyed sprinting between the two of us. Chris then took her to my dad's house and apparently Norah and Lucy hit it off right away. Chris and I tried going to bed early so we could spend the whole day with Norahdog since I had Saturday off.

Saturday was a bit more eventful, we picked up both Norahdog and Lucy to go to the dogpark, the two had been playing all morning and were already worn out. When we got to the dog park we found something quite odd in the bark park lot, a box of sex toys! I was in disbelief as that is the last thing you would expect to find laying around but there it was, just a box full next to my car. Laughing we went into the fenced in area of the park where there were 3 other dogs playing. Norah loves people so she ran to say hello to them first but got ambushed by the other dogs. There was a great dane that came bounding up whenever she tried to run and I think that freaked her out as she is usually the fastest and not used to being chased by something the size of a horse. Both her and Lucy tried to play with the little black dog fetching a ball but this retriever decided he wanted to be a little more than friends and Lucy retreated to the top of the picnic table out of humpsway (smart girl, no means no). But Norah is too young to know what that is and just got drooled on as this dog followed her around. We eventally left when both our dogs gave up. When we got back to the house we tried to see if Norah would go potty and stuck her in the backyard while we ate lunch. We were trying to give her space and maybe she wouldn't feel threatened and would just go. Well she decided that she liked the scent of a pile of poo and rubbed her face in it. Yes, poop all over the face. It was fresh and way out of the usual area that the other dogs go in so we think it was hers. I'm not sure if it was a way to be proud of herself or a way to give us the middle finger. Chris and I had to cart her upstairs and toss her in the tub. Let me just say wiping wet poo off a dog face may be one of the nastier things I've ever had to do. Chris just held her down while I did the dirty work (thanks for that boy :) Norahdog then got her post bath burst of energy and ran around with Lucy.

Norahdog is so gentle and calm. Chris and I are so lucky to have, hopefully this poop thing is just a phase. I always wanted a redhead child with freckles, I guess I finally got one! :)kerbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15830190949607814568noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4591514189671237618.post-990809037120197842009-11-12T23:59:00.002-06:002009-11-13T10:58:39.281-06:00Norah destroys her tent...I would like to point out that this is not really Norah's fault. This is my fault for being a stupid human and not just buying a proper kennel in the first place (like Kerby told me to)... :-)
There are multiple reasons for this: 1) her food and water dishes are also in the kitchen, 2) there is an exterior window that is low to the ground so she can look outside, 3) there isn't really anything that she can destroy that is within reach of her in the kitchen, and perhaps most importantly, 4) the kitchen isn't carpeted which is good since we are still working on the whole "pooping outside" thing and while there is progress there are also accidents.

Since the kitchen floor is not covered with nice soft carpet, I usually put Norah's pillow in the kitchen for her. Today, I took her whole "house" to the kitchen for her - doggie tent and all - thinking she might like that.

Well, I got back home and noticed that her food bowl was not where it usually was. Upon further inspection, I discovered it wedged in behind her pillow inside her tent! She somehow managed to pick up this food bowl and carefully move it to her "house" without spilling all the food. Crazy dog...

I applauded her amazing demonstration of doggie dexterity, and moved the food bowl back to where it belongs.

But this is not the only weird thing she does...

Norah also likes to crawl in under the couch to sleep. When I move to the bedroom to check my email and such, she crawls in under the bed (the human bed, that is) and naps until I tell her it is time for her to go to bed, then she gets in her own bed to sleep.

I wish I knew what was going on in her head because I'll bet it is interesting...

Norah under the human bed, with her "are you done yet so that we can go to sleep already?" look.

Norah in her own bed, munching away on her "chew and clean" bone (it's supposed to be good for her teeth, and tastes like chicken apparently).
She seems to be getting the hang of the whole dog park thing now, which is good. Norah is still a little nervous at first when we show up and the dog welcoming committee rushes the gate and all start sniffing her at the same time (I would be nervous two if a large group of people came up to me and all tried to shake my hand at the same time). But, once we are inside and she can join the welcoming committee then she has no problems.

I'll try to remember to take some video next time we go to the dog park :-)

When we got back, Norah spent some time munching on her chew toys before taking a nap - she always comes back from the dog park all worn out from running around like a psycho dog!
